Kool
Kayaking
Kool Kayaking is one of our most popular adventures.
Just bring your Jungle Reef Adventures Passport to our centre’s
‘Immigration Officer’ for validation of your Action
Visa and you're on your way. Our Prijon sea kayaks feature rudders,
ergonomic seats, knee braces and carbon fiber paddles.
Upon arrival, you are greeted by our professionally
trained guides. The first part of the day is a fun learning experience
on and in the water with our professional staff. You will learn
techniques on how to safely exit and re-enter your kayak on open
water, basic paddle strokes and balance, as well as dry entry/exit
from shore.
We take a deserved break for lunch at our Jungle Grille
Restaurant and then head back to our kayaks. After lunch, we don
our PFDs, Personal Flotation Devices and paddle up the coast over
reefs to examine the weathered volcanic cliffs that give St. Lucia
its renowned rugged beauty.
We then return southward passing small isolated beaches
and our adventure centre on he way to Grand Caille Pointe. From
here we can look across the entirety of Soufriere Bay and see the
majestic twin peaks of the Pitons rising half a mile out of the
sea.
It's an incredible place for photographs, especially
with a waterproof camera! After spending some time along the rocky
cliffs, you will head back to the Jungle Reef Adventure center where
the beach and a snorkeling await. Later, you board our boat for
your return trip back to your hotel.
If one day is not enough, come back for a second day
for our Bat Cave-Pitons Adventure. All you have to do is renew your
Passport and visa with our special offer. You will head south past
Grand Caille Pointe, make the turn and head east towards the town
of Soufriere. We first arrive at the Bat Cave, a vertical slice
in the rocky cliff, with thousands of bats. After hanging around
with the bats for a while, we turn south again and head for the
Pitons.
We land ashore at the Pitons, conditions permitting,
and stretch our legs. You can take a short walk-about, swim or lay
out on a rock enjoying the fact that you're not at work! After a
reasonable rest, we make our journey back across the bay to our
adventure center for lunch. In the afternoon, relax on the beach,
snorkel or enjoy our nature walks.
Important Stuff
Sol lucet omnibus, the sun shines on everyone. So bring sunscreen
and use it. Also, a synthetic, lightweight and loose long sleeve
garment can be helpful in keeping you from sunburn. Polarized sunglasses
with a securing device and a head covering, wide brimmed preferably,
are strongly advised. A swimsuit is fine for kayaking here. Cmfortable
footwear that can get wet, neoprene booties, etc. are best. We usually
have some of these items available in our retail centre. The Kool
Kayaking tour includes all the features of the Rainbow
Reef Safari (for all the details, please visit the Rainbow
Reef Safari page).
Rarely, there may be days when sudden weather conditions,
rains or winds, may warrant cancellation for safety reasons by staff
of the tour portion. Should this occur, all kayakers will be issued
a voucher for one free Kool Kayaking Action Visa or offered participation
in one of our other adventures. We do not have an age restriction
per se. Everyone must be physically able to handle a kayak and be
a comfortable in the water as a swimmer. We do have weight restrictions.
On the low end of things, you must weigh at least 110 pounds/50
kilos and our maximum weight is 220 pounds/100 kilos. The kayak
cockpits can be a tight squeeze for a few folks.
We have a small fleet of kayaks (singles and one
tandem), so please keep this in mind when booking.
